Why do government bureaucrats and politicians have the greatest faith in the concept of "honest and efficient government"?
These true believers in the 'EFFICIENT GOVERNMENT THEORY' really only trust government workers, elected politicians and (unbiased) bureaucrats to properly "assist and serve" the private citizens of America. You see, America's government employees are the "servants of the people" and they are almost always incorruptible. Why? Well, obviously, their honesty is due to the government workers' generous salary, benefit and pension packages. In addition, politicians and bureaucrats are not led astray by the businessperson's boundless greed, self-serving corruption, careless wastage, heartless selfishness, perverse sexuality and 'wrong-headed' thinking!
Naturally, this leads the true believers in the 'EFFICIENT GOVERNMENT THEORY' to minimize the 'rare' occurrences of government corruption, being that such corruption, crime and mayhem is anti-thetical to these true believers in a Governmental Utopia. Even the "Mainstream Media" will subtly - and sometimes rather blatantly - try to minimize cases of malfeasance committed by politicians and government workers. (Such politician and bureaucrat criminality does not fit the template of the 'EFFICIENT GOVERNMENT THEORY' - the favorite theory of liberal journalists and Big Government supporters.) A local political leader may be arrested for felony assault, bribery or theft in one community, but citizens who live just 60 miles away may never hear about this neighboring case of governmental criminality.
You may ask: What does this philosophy of 'EFFICIENT GOVERNMENT THEORY' mean to most of America's citizens, those who are not somehow employed by government?
For one thing, this means that we are all less informed about all types and levels of governmental misbehavior. We're also more likely to believe the bureaucrats, polticians and 'talking heads' in the mass media - when they presume to lecture us about the assumedhonesty, efficiency and public-spirited wisdom of our government representatives.
America's founding fathers - and mothers - would have spit out their fine ale, if someone had seriously asserted in the 1770s, that politicians and government bureaucrats were generally more honest and efficient than private business owners, farmers and self-employed professionals! "What amazing, naive foolishness!", those who founded the United States of America would have exclaimed ... and rightly so.
This website is where YOU should refer people, when someone begins to lecture YOU on the inherent honesty, incorruptibility and efficiency of America's government employees. As you and they will see, corruption and criminality can undermine any government level, from the most obscure municipal employees or public school teachers, all the way up to our elected representatives or the President of the United States!

One caveat from this columnist, encouraged by several regular readers of this column: Konyha is entitled to a presumption of innocence unless and until convicted of the charge. The arrest meant the police had probable cause to believe a crime was committed, a decision that will be reviewed by a judge at preliminary examination.
